YOU CAN HELP
If you’d like to get involved with our efforts there are many ways you can help.
It’s important we represent the interests of our community. If you have some thoughts or suggestions we would be happy to hear from you. You can contact us using our “Contact” form.
Share your views on the future of Swan Lake Park by answering our Heritage and Destination Park Questionnaire
Swan Lake Park is one of the most biodiverse areas in Markham, but it is under stress from the increasing urbanization of the area. The challenge is to preserve the biodiversity while accommodating the increase in visitors to the park.
Markham is in the process of approving the Mt. Joy redevelopment plan along Markham Road, which will include several large condo complexes housing over 25,000 new residents. The increased population is expected to add to the number of visitors to Swan Lake Park.
Milne Dam Conservation Park and Toogood Pond Park are classified as Natural Heritage Lands and as Destination Parks. As such, greater financial resources are available for their care than for Swan Lake Park which is classified as a “Community Park” within “Other Greenway Lands”.
Friends of Swan Lake Park is soliciting your views on whether you support Swan Lake Park being granted the same status as Milne Dam Conservation Park and Toogood Pond Park.
Make sure your voice is heard
The City of Markham has limited resources and must set priorities based on perceived community needs. If you support our mission it would be helpful if you contacted our local elected officials and let them know how you feel. To make it easy we’ve prepared a special form for this purpose. Your comments will be emailed to the Mayor and each member of Markham Council.
Make a donation
The Friends of Swan Lake Park is run entirely by volunteers. Our financial resources are very limited. While we do our very best to keep our spending to a minimum there are still some expenses that need to be covered. If you are able, we would be grateful for a donation. No amount is too small.
