A) VOLUNTEER OPTIONS:

There are many ways you can help to preserve the biodiversity of Swan Lake and Swan Lake Park. Indicate your areas of interest.

1) By becoming a "Steward" of Swan Lake Park by supporting "in-the-park" activities throughout the spring and summer

a) Become a “Swan Lake Nature Steward” and help remove invasive plant species and update the plant inventory.

b) Become a “Swan Lake Turtle Steward” and help identify and protect nesting sites for turtles.

c) Support the local David Suzuki Butterflyway leaders in maintaining the pollinator areas in the park

d) Support the Markham Lions Club’s stewardship efforts: with the spring & fall litter clean-up or installation and maintenance of birdhouses

2) By working as a general volunteer supporting FOSLP activities

a) Help organize and support park outings and activities such as birding, wildlife and nature walks or information walks highlighting our stewardship efforts

b) Community Education and Outreach: working with local schools or other environmental groups

c) Communications: writing articles, press releases, newsletter, social media postings or website support

d) Fundraising

e) Writing grant applications

3) By advocating for change before Markham Council for:

a) Improvements that preserve and enhance the habitat for wildlife

b) Improving park amenities and accessibility for visitors

c) Improvements to water quality in Swan Lake

4) By attending FOSLP monthly meetings (evenings 7:00 - 8:30 pm)

I would plan to regularly attend monthly meetings

B) OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP

a) Become a “Swan Lake Park Citizen Scientist” by recording your bird sightings on eBird.org or by recording sightings of other wildlife and insects on iNaturalist.org
